In the morning, the English speaking tour guide and driver will pick you up at Phu My Port, then drive about 3 hours to Cu Chi Tunnels, after exploring the tunnels, we will back to Ho Chi Minh City visiting some famous places here.

Attractions to visit in Ho Chi Minh City day tour

Cu Chi Tunnels

Setting off from cruise port to hop on Ho Chi Minh City shore excursion, we will pass by the breathtaking scenery of rubber plantations and rice paddies. At Cu Chi, we watch a short introductory video to understand how the tunnels were constructed, before heading to explore the maze of tunnels. Also on display are various mantraps, remains of an American tank and numerous bomb craters made by 500lb bombs dropped down from B52 bombers. Finish discovering Cu Chi Tunnels, we will then return to Ho Chi Minh City.

The Reunification Palace

After delicious lunch at a good local restaurant, we head to the Reunification Palace, one of the most important buildings in the city before visiting the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Saigon Old Post Office.

On the site of the former Norodom Palace sits the Reunification Palace, also known as the Independence Palace. Designed by architect, Ngô Viết Thụ, the palatial estate was the residential and administrative quarters of the President of South Vietnam. These days, visitors can walk the halls and meeting rooms, upholstered in red carpet. 

Notre Dame Cathedral

The twin-spired Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception sits at the head of Dong Khoi Street, a peaceful oasis in the busy downtown area. Built entirely from materials imported from France, the construction of the cathedral lasted nearly two decades, from 1863 to 1880.

Saigon Centre Post Office

Opposite the cathedral is Saigon’s charming general post office. Designed by Gustave Eiffel and built between 1877 and 1883, the Post Office truly reflects classical French colonial architecture style.

Take a stroll inside, where you”ll find a massive foyer flanked by rows of Victorian era wooden phone booths, historic maps on the walls, and a huge portrait of Ho Chi Minh.

Ben Thanh Market

You will finish the day trip with some shopping time at the Ben Thanh Market, a very popular tourist spot mainly due to its rich history. Ben Thanh Market in the centre of the city is a timeless marketplace and prime location. Inside the market, a matrix of aisles sells everything from beautiful silk Ao Dai, fresh produce to conical hats, weasel coffee to lacquerware. Toward the end of the hall is a maze of food stalls selling sizzling pan cake and freshly assembled bread.

Roof Top Bar Saigon

If time permits, you will have some drinks at the Roof Top Bar at the Rex Hotel before returning to the port in good time for cruising.

Overlooking the very heart of the city, the Rooftop Garden is the place that the memories still remain, of which it recalls the world to its past famous calling “Five O’clock Follies”, where international correspondents covered the Vietnam war.

Day trip ends when the driver drops you off at the port for your cruise departure.

Special Note: The visit to Cu Chi lasts around 5 hours, and with 3 hours for Ho Chi Minh city, it will be a hectic day tour starting off from Phu My Port. You can arrange your tour from the Port in Vung Tau if your cruise docks for the whole day and leaves in the evening.

Port Permit Service:

Choose to purchase port permit service: For a fee of 25USD/ person, our guide and transport can go inside the port, right to your cruise ship for pick-up and drop-off. This requires passport details such as full name, passport number, DOB, expiry date and nationality. We recommend this service for safety and comfort during hot or rainy days, as well a reliable transport service.

Choose not to purchase port service fee: Please walk out of the port for 15 minutes – 20 minutes or take a shuttle bus inside port gate (3 - 5US$/ person) where the guide and driver will welcome you with a sign and a smile. This does not include a fee.
